If you are shielding, in a vulnerable group, or have a larger family bubble, please contact us by phone or email to book a private time to come to the shop.
Donations are now only accepted by pre-booking. Phone or email for more details. Drop us a message on here for the contact details. Please do not bring donations to the shop unless you have an arrangement to do so. Apologies in advance for anyone we have to turn away, but we’re a tiny shop and we don’t have the space to safely quarantine items for the required time to keep all of us safe.
We are very lucky that our customers are loyal and kind and we know you will follow these rules to protect us all and allow us to continue to bring books to our community. We continue to offer our previous services for orders, however some of our suppliers have not made it through this storm and we may have to ask you to be patient with slightly longer waits for some titles. As always, we’ll do our very best for you.
We thank you for your respect and continued support during these difficult times. It’s thanks to you that we’ve been able to keep going, and we’ll keep calm and carry on!
Books, history, community
We are based in rural Aberdeenshire and many of our regulars speak the local dialect, Strathbogie Doric, and many others are Gaelic speakers. Preservation and celebration of these languages is important to us. We are very proud of the fact that most of this website is now available in both Strathbogie Doric and Gaelic. Please keep an eye out for buttons to switch the page over to Doric or Gaelic
We also stock books in both Doric and Gaelic. Our huge thanks go to Mary Burgerhout and Douglas McKenzie for the translations.
